The Karakoram is a mountain range which although it spans the borders of India, Pakistan and China with the northwest extremity of the range extending to Afghanistan and Tajikistan, the highest 15 mountains are all based in Pakistan. It begins in the Wakhan Corridor (Afghanistan) in the west and encompasses the majority of Gilgit-Baltistan (Pakistan) and extends into Ladakh (India) and the disputed Aksai Chin region controlled by China. It is the second highest mountain range in the world and part of the complex of ranges including the Pamir Mountains, the Hindu Kush and the Himalayan Mountains. The Karakoram has eight summits over 7,500 m (24,600 ft) height, with four of them exceeding 8,000 m (26,000 ft): K2, the second highest peak in the world at 8,611 m (28,251 ft), Gasherbrum I, Broad Peak and Gasherbrum II.The range is about 500 km (311 mi) in length and is the most heavily glaciated part of the world outside the polar regions. The Siachen Glacier at 76 kilometres (47 mi) and the Biafo Glacier at 63 kilometres (39 mi) rank as the world’s second and third longest glaciers outside the polar regions.
My name is Abbas Saleem Baltee. I was born and raised in an underprivileged area of Khaplu of Gilgit-Baltistan, where I received my early education. I was very fond of painting since my childhood. It was my passion that’s why I always stood first position in every art-competition during my school days. As I was interested in Arts and Paintings, so I had to face multiple challenges and problems in beginning because there was no particular institution in Khaplu of Gilgit-Baltistan to polish my artistic skills.
I always tried and am still trying at my level best to promote the culture of Gilgit-Baltistan through my artistic skills. Due to the lack of Art Exhibition in our region, it was very painful movement for me because I had to keep my painting at home after completing the works. In that context, it was a big issue for me to continue the art work, however, I decided to carry on my art work as well as my studies. Honestly, my family and friends encouraged my determination, so I didn’t need any special institutions to continue my Art work. Art and painting is my hobby and passion. I was able to recognize myself to a leading positions in various competitions of Arts and painting at GB-level.
Afterward, I moved to Islamabad for higher studies where I got admission in commerce in University of Lahore. Owing to the different field, it was tough time for me to maintain the both fine art and commerce, but I continued to fight against the hurdles in my way to lead towards step forward. Now, Alhamdulillah, I am getting opportunities to exhibit my paintings at National and International level. I was awarded score of certificates, shield and prizes in multiple art-competition. And recently, I have completed my master degree in Commerce from the University of Lahore in 2017.
In my opinion success can only be achieved by working hard. Nothing can stop a person if he or she is determined enough. Keep pushing yourself through the hurdles and problems. I am sure no obstacles will be able to stop you from achieving your goals. Hard Work is always rewarded, sooner or later!
